In Africa and some other tropical climates, the Palmtree is common. It is an economic tree that has no wastage. The leaves are used to make sweeping brooms, and the branches holding the leaves are used to make baskets, cane furniture etc. The fruit has very diverse uses: palm oil is extracted from it, the kernel/seed also has special oil that is used to make rich soap and cream, and the chaff is used in making feed for animals and other things, this can go on and on. Then the tree is the source of the main indigenous drink in Africa namely Palmwine. From the Palmwine too local gin is distilled. In African Higher Institutions of learning, the Palmwine Drinkers Club (also lately referred to as Keggites Club) is the most popular of all Clubs. This fellowship is aimed at not only promoting the Palmwine culture but also going a step ahead to extol the virtues and numerous benefits of this highly economic tree called the Palmtree.
