Dr. Mike Omotoso, An Icon of our fellowship

Monday, 24 October 2022 by developer

He was the first to give $100 as a life member and gave all moral support for RFP take off in his year as DG. He is Grand Patron Mike Omotosho

He promised me to sponsor 100 Liters of Palmwine to any RI Convention RFP will participate in. He was so happy when I got a booth for RFP in The House of Friendship in Atlanta Convention and wanted to refund me the cost but I told him that I did not pay for it.

He is RFP Grand Patron and it is so sad he is departing now that we are formally registered and our structures about to take shape.

The District had the best Cultural Night in his year as a DG. He told me he was inspired after attending my New Yam Festival in 2015 that I used to mark my 50th birthday. He told me there at the New Yam Festival that I will be District Chair Culture. The following day he told me that his wife was so thrilled he returned home with a life cock and a tubber of yam he got at the New Yam Festival as a titled man. From then plan started for the District Cultural Night.

Big Mike is in the center of my best Rotary experience that I have shared in one or two places.

Goodnight Omereoha of Isu Kingdom. Sleep well Grand Patron of Rotary Fellowship of Palmwine. Adieu my great friend.

May your gentle soul rest in perfect peace.

Amen.

Rotarian Palmwine Fellowship calls for tree planting in FCT

Monday, 24 October 2022 by developer

The Rotarian Palmwine Fellowship (RPF), a Rotary International flagship on promotion of African culture and tourism, yesterday in Abuja, urged Rotary clubs in Nigeria to embrace the call by the Rotary International that every Rotarian should plant at least one tree this Rotary year.

The founder and leader of the fellowship, Nze Kanayo Chukwumezie, said the call became necessary to save the world from the adverse effects of deforestation. According to him, The Parks and Recreation Department of the Federal Capital Territory has asked those that want to plant or donate trees to do so without further delay because rains will soon recede.

This advice should be heeded globally as the trees need the rains to be able to survive the dry season that will soon start.&rdquo He commended the Rotary clubs of Abuja Wuse 2, Kaduna, Asokoro, among others for executing the project, adding that the Rotary Club of Apo, Rotary Club of Abuja Capital Territory, and the Rotary Club of Abuja City were already finalising arrangements with Parks and Recreation to execute their tree planting projects.

Nze Kanayo urged all clubs yet to plant trees to hasten up or prepare for the next year rains.

y Rotary Service & Engagement Staff

To wrap up June’s Fellowships month we celebrate and recognize our more than 90 Fellowships creating a community within Rotary. Our list of Fellowships continues to grow, read on to learn about our newest groups!

During the last year, the Internet, LGBT+, and Metalheads Fellowships coordinated service projects and new initiatives:

Rotarians on the Internet Fellowship:

 • Funds were donated to provide internet connection services at My Sister’s Place (MSP). MSP is a safe, welcoming, and inclusive center for women who have experienced violence, trauma, or have suffered mental or physical health challenges.
 • Computers were donated to The Gathering Place, which is a community hub in London that provides opportunities for those with intellectual disabilities.

Rotary LGBT+ Fellowship:

 • Several virtual happy hours were coordinated in Portuguese to connect LGBT+ people and allies within the Rotary family. These happy hours were started to have conversations, educate, and build safe spaces with LGBT+ communities around the world and to engage Rotary and Rotaract Clubs.
 • The Rotary LGBT+ Fellowship promoted a service project leading up to the 2021 Rotary International Virtual Convention. They coordinated with Rotary and Rotaract clubs to sponsor food drives to support either a local LGBT Food Pantry with funds, non-perishable food items, or both.
 • Read more about Rotary’s LGBT+ community in the June 2021 issue of Rotary magazine.

Rotarian Metalhead Fellowship:

 • Rotarians in the United Kingdom launched a mental health campaign that features the Metal band Burning Witches. The campaign encourages open communication and speaking about your mental health.
 • The Rotarian Metalhead Fellowship was interviewed by a German Rotaract podcast, which you can listen to here.
